#Blue for CRC Slide Show

National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Dress in Blue Day is on the first Friday of March of each year to raise awareness about colorectal cancer and the importance of colon cancer screening to save lives. People can wear blue, take photos, and share them on social media with the hashtag #blueforcrc #alabama.

Anita Mitchell, a stage IV colorectal cancer survivor and founder of Colon Cancer Stars, started Dress in Blue Day in 2006. Mitchell was inspired to start the event after losing a friend and father to the disease and being the third parent at her children's school to be diagnosed under the recommended screening age. She was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 35 years. Mitchell's successful local school program led her to present the idea to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance (https://colorectalcancer.org) in 2009, and the program was eventually expanded nationwide. BHIP Medical Services advocates for early colon cancer screening to save lives.  Our goal is to raise awareness through community education. Join us for the National “Go Blue” day each year.

Our next National “Go Blue” day is March 7, 2025.
